Partnerships with women, birthing people and families

The 2020 Ockenden report has strong emphasis on the involvement of women, birthing people and their families in their care. Immediate and essential action (IEA) 2 states that ‘maternity services must ensure that women and their families are listened to with their voices heard’. In a similar vein, IEA 7 states that ‘all maternity services must ensure the provision to women of accurate and contemporaneous evidence-based information. Women must be enabled to participate equally in all decision-making processes and to make informed choices about their care and those choices must be respected’.

Whilst all would agree with these aspirations, putting them into practice in maternity services, is not without its challenges.

In this webinar we will explore the feasibility of doing this and listen to examples of how maternity services in England and beyond have been able to achieve good practice.
